Natural Resources

A.D. Marble provides a wide variety of natural and cultural resources services. Our services include National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation, Section 4(f) evaluations, wildlife and forest management, landscape architecture, wetlands, ecology, farmland assessments, CADD/GIS, historic structures, archaeology, public involvement, and agency coordination. Our goal is to consistently guide projects through the environmental process effectively, ensuring that the needs of the project are weighed appropriately against current environmental constraints.

Natural Resources

A.D. Marble is an expert in natural resource studies. When our client’s option(s) cannot avoid environmental impacts, our approach involves assessing the proposed impacts and working closely with the engineers to minimize them as much as possible. Our natural resources services include:

  • Wetland permitting, delineation, enhancement, restoration, and functional assessment
  • Streambank restoration, relocation, and stabilization (Rosgen Level IV)
  • Wetland mitigation design
  • Wetland construction inspection and monitoring
  • Aquatic investigations
  • Fluvial geomorphology
  • Federal and state permitting
  • Threatened and endangered species studies
  • Wildlife habitat assessment studies
  • Ecosystem restoration and watershed planning
NEPA Documentation

As required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), A.D. Marble conducts the technical studies, public and agency coordination, and documentation to determine the effect of a proposed action on the human, cultural, and natural environment. The NEPA documents prepared by A.D. Marble provide a tool for the lead agency to make project decisions. Our staff is experienced with the preparation and coordination of the following:

  • Environmental assessments
  • Environmental impact statements
  • Findings of No Significant Impact
  • Categorical exclusions
  • Mitigation commitments
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Record of Decision
Air & Noise Studies

A.D. Marble offers comprehensive traffic noise support services for transportation initiatives. Our experienced staff is adept at providing:

  • Identification of project area noise-sensitive land use and preparation of noise monitoring work plans
  • Traffic noise monitoring to support detailed traffic noise model development
  • Traffic noise modeling (using the Federal Highway Administration’s [FHWA’s] TNM model) to establish existing worst-case, future “no-build,” and future “build” scenario traffic noise levels
  • Screening of project areas to establish whether sound barrier investigation is warranted, feasible, and reasonable as stipulated under 23 CFR Part 772 and state guidance documents
  • Detailed mitigation analysis to establish the acoustical profile (requisite height and length) of sound barriers that pass the state/federal screening criteria
  • Public outreach support through all project phases, including public presentations and development of support graphics.

Additionally, A.D. Marble provides project-level transportation air-quality support services for transportation projects, including:

  • Project-level screening to determine project exemptions/eligibility for detailed project-level analysis
  • Qualitative air-quality assessments for pollutants of concern, including PM2.5 and MSATs analyses
  • Quantitative micro-scale “hot-spot” analyses for criteria pollutants using the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) MOBILE and CAL3QHC emissions and dispersion models or alternative methodologies as approved by EPA and FHWA
  • Documentation of regional conformity
  • Public outreach support through all project phases

A.D. Marble offers acoustical evaluations for a variety of private sector interests. These projects encompass, but are not limited to: industrial/commercial noise permits, facility emissions inventories, and/or development of abatement strategies to minimize noise pollution. Noise monitoring and modeling is typically employed in support of these analyses.

Air Quality Permitting
A.D. Marble is also capable of assisting with private-sector air quality permitting. These activities typically require emissions inventories and/or projections for criteria pollutants in order to satisfy the regulatory requirements for permit acquisition.

Social Environment

A.D. Marble’s experienced staff has successfully worked on numerous socioeconomic studies and community impact assessments. Our strategy is to create a community profile that allows us to assess the community’s unique character and needs and identify the existing and/or potential impacts that could occur as a result of a project. Our services include:

  • Community impact assessments
  • Air and noise analyses
  • Community inventories
  • Environmental justice
  • Public involvement
  • Coordination with public officials
  • Farmlands assessments
  • Land use assessments
  • Economic impact analyses
  • Secondary and cumulative impact assessments

A.D. Marble has experience in all aspects of the public involvement process, including multi-state and national projects. Educating the public about a project and providing a forum where people can express their concerns adds to the success of a project. We engage the public through a variety of methods including:

  • Open house public meetings
  • Community workshops
  • Public officials briefings
  • Stakeholders meetings
  • Citizen Advisory Committee meetings
  • Special interest group meetings
  • Agency coordination meetings
  • Newsletters/brochures/press releases
